Václav Havel on hope

I read this quote of Václav Havel’s at the open air exhibition on the Prague Spring and Velvet Revolution in Wenceslas Square. It reassures me that though I am a natural pessimist I can still be hopeful.

“Hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism. It is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out.”
